Anika Swimwear Sale at Cooper Design Space

Anika Swimwear
It’s cold and windy, and we don’t care. We’ve already begun daydreaming about laying out on the beach and soaking up the rays pool side. It seems the gals over at Jena Weir Sales are on the same boat. They’re having a huge sale on Anika Swimwear for “the next few weeks” with tops and bottoms priced at $40 each and one-piece suits at $90.

If you’re not familiar with Anika, they specialize in low cut styles while still providing back coverage. We did some background research and found the average two-piece from the Brazilian swimwear line runs for about $160. That means 50% off or more on retail prices!

According to their Facebook post, Jena Weir Sales has ample designs, colors and structures to choose from. They even have Anika hangers for $2. This LA weather can take its sweet time sorting itself out. We’re shopping anyway.

How could you not have a great day when you're wearing fuchsia pants?

Here at LPF, I like to practice what I preach! After lots of lusting over colorful pants I finally broke down and got a pair from J. Crew (well, two but more on that later). My mom was visiting in Wisconsin and we went shopping for early birthday gifts (I will be 23 in a couple weeks & LPF will be turning 5!!).

I paired my fuchsia pants with a champagne colored sparkly sweater, but I can't wait to wear them all spring  paired back to colorful tanks and cuffed with sandals.I'm also rocking a new shade of coral lipstick from Sephora, in "Coral Coquette".

I picked up a cute pink, rosette clutch from Target. I've been using it to keep the essentials in for my daily purse changing & wear it on its own when going out.

What's your latest lust this week?

Fashion Show at Santee Village

THIS JUST IN:  Santee Village may be getting its own fashion show! While plans for the show are still in the initial stages, we are very excited to report the news.

Emmy winner and hair stylist, Curt Darling has expressed interest in putting the show together and is currently seeking designers to participate. If you would like to learn more about this opportunity or have any inquiries, please contact appt@curtdarling.com.

Mr. Darling, pictured above, has been in the hair styling business for 20 years. He developed the DryCut, a unique cutting technique that works with hair in its natural state, using techniques that mimic the natural growth patterns to create sustainable, long lasting haircuts. He also has his own line of organic hair care products.

FW12 Runway Trends for Real Life

I love fashion week. Working in the fashion industry has truly given me a new respect for all the thought work and detail that goes into every last stitch of a garment that comes down the runway. I always end each season feeling totally inspired, and wishing I could be wearing everything already.

As much as I love the avant garde pieces from each collection. It's really exciting to see things that look like you could practically wear them right off the runway. These are a few of the collections that felt just like that for me:

Burberry FW12 Trends: preppy rugby stripes, rugged canvas jackets, and bow belt details. A mix of feminine silk fabrics with traditional tweeds and the occasional quirky graphic tee thrown in to keep things from feeling too serious.

J. Crew FW12 Trends: Unexpected shades for fall; mint, hot pink, lipstick red, and royal blue. Fairisle sweaters in un-traditional shades, stripes, snakeskin, jeweled collars, and long coats to top off a look.

DSquared FW12 Trends: Layered to the max with sweaters and toggle coats, cropped pants, and striped sweaters. Leopard accents and fifties feel with cateye glasses & bouffant hair.

Mara Hoffman FW12 Trends: Traditional Ethnic prints, hammed metal jewerly, dress cutouts, floaty maxi dresses, and Indiana Jones headwear.

Thakoon FW 12 Trends: Fur vests, spacedye marled yarn knits, collared shirts layered under sweaters, wool navajo coats, maxi dresses, knotted shirt dresses, earth tones.

Have you been following FW12 Fashion Week? If so, what have your favorite shows been? Or which is your favorite of these designers' collections?

Buttons and Bows Resale and Consignment Store Coming to Downtown LA

Monique Aquino and Karen Marley
The Fashion District is getting a new neighbor and a pretty exciting one too. Buttons and Bows, a resale and consignment store is scheduled to open sometime in mid-March, early April. Its co-founders, Karen Marley, daughter of the legendary Bob Marley, and fashion blogger Monique Aquino, promise to bring only the best in designer and vintage goods.

The store is a mortar and brick extension of Aquino’s eBay store and Buttons and Bows blog.

“We wanted to open our store in an area that wasn’t already saturated with resale and consignment stores,” said Aquino. “We realized there were no designer resources in downtown LA.”

Buttons & Bows aims to cater to the Fashion District audience offering services like drop off buying, where one can drop off clothes and pick up whatever the store isn’t buying the next day. They will also provide a mobile buying service within a 5-mile radius of downtown, meaning BBLA will come to you for a little closet therapy.

What can you expect from BBLA?
  • 37% cash back on resale (that’s 2% more than the 35% average)
  • 55% cash back on consignment (5-10% more than average)
  • BBLA will donate your unwanted (if they can’t buy them from you and you don’t’ want them back) clothes to charity

At Home with LPF

Anyone who follows me on pinterest can see that I've been pinning home decor like a mad woman. Now that I've been in my place for a year, I'm anxious to switch up existing decor and add some new treasures. I wanted to show everyone some of the decor in my living room.

Here I am with my newly organized bookcase & mint sweater layered over a vintage gingham button down.

Lately I've been searching design blogs, etsy, ebay & making a shopping list for antique stores.  I'll be excited to share my decorating progress on LPF!

Valentine's Day lillies from my boyfriend, pretty new pillows from etsy & an old window display of Grace Kelly covering an entire wall.

Treasure Hunting on Etsy

As most of you know, I'm a huge etsy junkie. I love supporting independent artists & crafters and buying something unique and handmade! I'm always enthralled by the treasuries that etsy rotates on their homepage every day. They always seem like the perfect collection of items that fit the theme. I decided to create my first collection of goodies, featuring all things that remind me of being a florida girl.

From the key lime cake bites, tie dyed beach towels, sharks teeth necklaces, and orange blossom votives, it makes me smile and think of home just looking at it!

Are you an etsy fan too? I encourage you to create your own treasury & share. It's fun to play art curator weave a common thread between all of the handmade goodies on the site.

a Southern Soiree

My birthday is an entire month away still, but, I can't help but dream up what kind of celebration I'd like to have this year. I absolutely love living in the Midwest, but sometimes I miss things about the South (best bbq ever, being able to say y'all without anyone looking at me funny, and warm weather to name a few). So, I think for my 23rd birthday, I'd like to bring a taste of Southern living to my friends up here.

Photobucket

These are some of my inspirations for a Southern Soiree:
  • Bandanna table runners for a buffet of southern favorites
  • Mini bbq pork sliders,  mac & cheese bites & personal pecan pies
  • Chalkboard with a menu of southern favorites
  • Drinks served in mason jars with chalkboard tags to write your name
  • A rope sign with the birthday girl's name (a girl can dream right?!)
  • Other ideas include: line dancing lessons, a country music playlist & corn hole game

I also have a drink recipe card for the perfect beverage of the evening:

    Nail Trends Spring 2012

When it seems to be real cold outside the only thing we can think about is spring.  In order to bring some warmth in your cold days I decided to research some nail trends for the new coming season. So, I have picked my favorite nail looks from the Spring 2012 runways. This year, fresh, modern and sophisticated nail colors are key. The big news with the nails this season: nude is in. Plenty of designers, from Giorgio Armani and Marc Jacobs, to new arrival Christopher Kane armed their models with statement neutral nails on this season’s catwalk. So lets get involved and choose your favorite nail look! If you still cannot decide between this set of suggestions, remember that the classic French manicure is never out of fashion.
    Enjoy!

    1. Nude and Pale. New neutral tones offer a refreshing look that is perfect for everyday wear.

2.Colors - Prettiness and femininity were two of the most directional trends at the shows. On nails, that translated into lady-like reds, rich burgundy, demure pastels, and smart chartreuse.

    3. Patterns - The nail art designs are attractive benefits to you by the beauty of your hands and your nails look great for you.

Dolce & Gabbana Spring/ Summer 2012 Ad Campaign

Monica Bellucci (47 years) has left everyonespeechless when she posed for Dolce &Gabbana spring-summer 2012 campaign. In this advertising campaign beautiful Italianactress plays the role of a mother surrounded by children and beautiful Bianca Balti. Pictures reveals the activitiesof an italian family, a life that keeps tradition andstill believes in the significance ofthe word "family". Inspired by a trio of timeless Italian cinema stars, the prints show Monica and Biana channeling their inner Sofia Loren, Monica Vitti and Anna Magnan. Dressed in elegant full-length frocks, and two-piece knee-length ensembles, Bellucci and Balti deliver the perfect balance of past and present. This campaign definitely become one of my favourites.
Enjoy the spirit of an italian summer!
