Moroccan Roll

Photobucket

This set was inspired by an editorial I spotted (& loved) in Vogue Paris' April 2010 issue featuring Natasha Poly. Stripey knits, harem pants, fringed bags & some major statement jewelry are set against an equally as colorful desert backdrop. Plus what can I say, the girl knows how to work a camel!

Are harem pants better suited for the desert & fashion editorials or could you work them into your real life wardrobe?

P.S. Congrats to Fashion Court for winning the "Color Me Coral" Giveaway & check back for another awesome giveaway at the end of the week!

If This Closet Could Talk..

I think a girl's closet says a lot about her. You can almost imagine the type of person who wears the clothes that make their home inside. The girl that owns this closet likes a bit of simple luxury in her life, she always looks dainty and feminine.

My closet is slightly messy & bursting with color, print, and embellished details. I guess that says i'm creative minded, optimistic & not afraid of being a little bit bold?

I love how everything in the closet seems to coordinate, whether from the pale neutral colors, lightweight chiffon, frilly details, or miniscule prints. Even the silky padded hangers seem to complement the clothes.

What would a peek in your closet say about you?

DenimOnDenim in YMI Jeggings [& Exclusive Discount!]

Photobucket

The awesome people at denim line, YMI, were kind enough to send me a pair of their Sleek Dark Blue Leggings to test drive. Since, I just posted about the denim trend for Spring/Summer 2010 I decided to pair it with a faded chambray shirt & accessories with natural elements (wood & shell chunky bangles & a shell necklace).

Denim leggings (also referred to as jeggings) are my new favorite trend in jeans. Since I'm so short it's hard to find pairs that don't have to be severely hemmed. I don't have that problem with denim leggings because I can just scrunch them up by the ankles. They look cute dressed up or down and are seriously so comfortable you could bust a move in these things.

YMI is offering La Petite Fashionista readers a 48 hour, 40% discount on the Sleek Dark Blue Jeggings making them only $22.80 + shipping. If you don't have a pair of jeggings yet, it's a great investment in your wardrobe! I especially like how easy they can slip into boots & comfortably pull on.

The discount code is: YMIPETITE & the promotion ends Saturday, March 27th at 3 pm EST.

Denim Daze

Denim is classic, it truly will never go out of style. Lately, though it's been popping up in fashion editorials, ads, & street style shots like never before. It seems strange to say it's become "trendy", but truly that's what's happening!

Here are some denim shots that have been inspiring me lately..

Have you noticed all the buzz around denim for spring/summer 2010?

Candy Coated Spring Pastels

One of my favorite trends for spring have been the beautiful pastels popping up in everything from tees to nail polish (mint candy apple much?). The difference is that they're more a punch Palm Beach pastel than like anything you'd find in an Easter basket.

I think these spring shades look best when accompanied by a tan or nude colored accessory like a wedge heel or handbag. It's more fresh looking than a bold black or white, but still very vibrant.

I thought this shot from French Glamour Magazine showed the perfect use of color for Spring! Now the weather has consistently been in the 70's it finally feels like spring has sprung. Time to break out the sandals & sundresses!

What's your favorite shade for spring?

American Beauties @ Cole Haan

I'm obsessed with Cole Haan's Spring 2010 lookbook-- it's shot by The Selby so it has a perfectly candid look to it. I love that so many brands are jumping on the fashion blog bandwagon and are shooting lookbooks that defy the traditional run-of-the mill shots. It's okay to smile once in a while you know! :)

The lookbook perfectly captures the all American essence of Cole Haan, but has a nice added trendy and personal edge to it!

Color Me Coral Giveaway!

When it comes to jewelry, I love to mix and match & I have a special place in my heart for natural stones (it's definitely the bohemian spirit in me). This is why my latest loving this line feature goes to Allison Dayton Jewelry.

She sent me her Coral Shard Bracelet to test out & give away to a lucky reader. I'm going to be sad to part with it; it literally adorned my wrist every day of spring break. Wearing it just made it instantly feel like summer. I can't wait for one of you lucky ones to love it as much as I do!

These are a few of my other favorite picks from her line which is full of great mix & match jewelry with a polished bohemian look to it:

To win the Coral Shard bracelet pictured (top left). Just leave a comment telling me what you're looking most forward to about spring!

The "Color Me Coral" Giveaway is open to EVERYONE because I will be sending the bracelet to the winner! For an extra entry tweet about it (just tag @lpfashionista). The contest will end Sunday March 28th @ Midnight EST.

P.S. Yes, this is my little yellow truck or as I like to call her; "Sunshine". She's my pride & joy haha. No one ever believes a girly girl like me drives a truck haha. I love it :)

Celebrating My Birthday in my LBD!

Today was my 21st birthday! I turned 21 at midnight and made my way to our favorite bar proceeded by yet another bar. My friends made it the best birthday it could possibly be; complete with lots of birthday cake shots (really not as good as it sounds) & a slice of red velvet cake!

I wore a body con dress I scored at the Saks 5th Avenue Outlet & heels from Primark. I decided to go a bit more daring than I usually go. You really can't go wrong with a little black dress!

Today La Petite Fashionista is also celebrating its 3rd birthday! I'm so grateful for all of the wonderful friends i've made while blogging & all the endless support over the years! It's so exciting to have seen fashion blogging grow as it has!

one love. one life. let's get together & feel alright :)

I'm so sorry i've been M.I.A. the past few days from the blogosphere. I spent the last week in beautiful sunny Destin, FL for spring break with my girlfriends! It was a much needed break from life, it's amazing what a little bit of rest & relaxation can do.

Thought I'd share a few of my favorite snapshots from the trip.

So now it's back to work (inventory week-- ahhhh), and I have to force myself off island time and back to reality. On the bright side, I'll be celerbrating my 21st birthday sunday & La Petite Fashionista turns 3!

Come on Feel the Noise

PARKING LOT PONIES from V Magazine on Vimeo.

Sometimes i feel lke I should have lived in the 80's (I was born in '89). . I would have been all about the hair bands, aqua net, and ripped leather; so tacky but so awesome. Definitely some wild times! Obviously this behind the scenes video of V Magazine's "Come on Feel the Noise" editorial captured my heart.

What decade do you feel like you belong in?

All Mixed Up

allmixedup by lapetitefashionista

Mixed prints is a big trend for Spring/Summer 20010! It is definitely one of those "tricky" trends that can be a little initimidating and many of us will just leave it up to fashion editorials to rock this style. Luckily, there are some tricks to making this work in the real world too!

Use Balance. If you use a bold print on the bottom pair it with a more subtle print on the top. For example, the first outfit matches up a high waisted geometric skirt with a pinstripe crop top.

2. Mix complementary colors together. Whether it is a warm or cool color palette when the top & bottom coordinate it makes the look more cohesive.

3. Pair variations of the same print in each piece. The third look has a flower graphic on it very similar to the one on the skirt.

I'm really excited to experiment with this look! It's definitely tricky, but has such an avant garde feel to it.

Will you be mixing prints this spring or is this look better suited to the runway?

Jesica Milton's Modern Minimalist Look

Check out Seattle designer, Jesica Milton's S/S 2010 collection! Each piece coordinates perfectly and contains special touches like a peekaboo lace back & asymmetrical sleeves. Everything would fit perfectly in any 20-something's closet and would become that effortless go-to outfit when you want to be stylish without really trying.

Loving that they chose a chic redhead model for their lookbook & those strappy shoes! I really love finding out about new designers and seeing their design aesthetic!
